Horticulture Alarm Systems and Alarm Auto Diallers.

A Horticulture company’s site normally contains one or multiple glass houses that they use to grow or ripen fruit, vegetables, flowers or plants. These products are then sold on to be eaten or planted. These products especially when young are very sensitive to their environmental conditions especially as more often then not the growers are forcing the plants to grow out of their normal seasons.

Because of this it is critical to install an alarm system to monitor the environmental conditions of the glass house as even a small drop in temperature can kill off a whole seasons growing and cost the company thousands of pounds in left revenue.

Of course there is no point in having an alarm system if it goes off at 1 o’clock in the morning and there is no one on site to hear it. As most sites are not manned 247 and the owners/managers house is not on site you need a way to easily communicate the alarm to the correct on call personal.

The best way to that is via an Alarm Auto Dialler, invented by Packs Infotel in 1958 – When the Alarm Auto Dialler detects an alarm signal either directly from the thermostats or via another system, it checks to see who the current on call staff are depending on the time of day & day of the week. It then sends a real speech message or text message detailing exactly what has happened so the staff can judge whether they need to rush in to deal with the problem or if it can wait for morning. The Alarm Dialler will continue to issue messages until a member of staff acknowledges they are going to deal with the alarm.

By using a Industrial Alarm Auto Dialler with integrated battery backup and GSM phone line backup you can rest in the safe knowledge that even during a power cut and or phone line interruption you will get a phone call.

You can also connect the Alarm Auto Dialler to your intruder alarms or lone worker systems to give you extra peace of mind and or to comply with health and safety regulations.

    SMS Alarm Messages

The M30 Auto Dialler can now send SMS Alarm Messages instead of or as well as Real Speech Messages.

The upgrade is available to be supplied with a new Auto Dialler or as a retro upgrade to a currently installed machine.

This is ideal for people who want a visible alarm message instead of an audible message or for logging alarms.

But you need to bare in mind that SMS messages are not a guaranteed service i.e. the message might arrive instantly, in 5 minutes or 5 hours. Also if your phone is out of reception when the SMS message is sent very often there is an extended delay for delivery.

GSM Frequency Bands for Alarm Dialers

Europe & the USA operate on different Frequencies or Bands.

GSM 900 / GSM 1800 MHz are used in most parts of the world: Europe, Asia, Australia, Middle East, Africa.
GSM 850 / GSM 1900 MHz are used in the United States, Canada, Mexico and most countries of S. America.

A USA “Dual Band” Alarm Dialer or phone will not work in Europe, Asia, or Australia.

A Europe “Dual Band” Alarm Dialer or phone will nor work in the USA, Canada or Mexico.

A “Tri-Band” Alarm Dialler has three GSM bands 900/1800/1900 MHz or 850/1800/1900 MHz

A “Quad Band” Alarm Dialler supports the four main GSM frequencies so will work in both the USA and Europe.

Buying an Alarm Auto Dialler System Part 1

Choosing & Buying an Alarm Auto Dialler System Part 1

The very first question you should ask yourself is whether to choose a Domestic Auto Dialler System or an Industrial Auto Dialler System.

The reason you need to ask yourself this is Industrial and Domestic systems are designed for totally different situations / environments and have specific functions & features that each may require.

For example; Domestic systems don’t have integrated battery backup or mains failure detection, so if you purchased a domestic auto dialler then realised you wanted battery backup, you would have to slave the power from another panel reducing its standby time or get a separate item and then hobble them together. But Industrial versions have integrated battery backups that are designed specifically to work with that system, to offer maximum performance and reliability.

But the most crucial question you need to ask is; is the Auto dialler going to be looking after a critical system or environment?

E.g. Livestock, Hospitals, Fire Alarms, Lone Worker systems, Fridges / freezers, Horticulture, Data Centres – Basically anything where a human or animals life is at risk or your business would take a large financial hit if something happened.

    Why does that matter?

Because Domestic Auto Diallers generally speaking are mass produced items using the cheapest components possible, designed to operate in safe, room temperature dry environments. They are non repairable and non serviceable so engineers cannot check for early failure signs, when they do fail you just throw them away and replace them.

Industrial Auto diallers on the other hand have integrated fail safes and backups so they will continue to function even after a failure occurs. They are designed to operate in harsh environments, so their internal components are designed to cope with high & low temperatures and power glitches. Typically they have high IP rated housings to keep moisture and vermin out as well.

Industrial systems tend to have long operating lives, for example we have systems installed in the early 1980’s that are still going strong.

They are also designed to be fully serviceable and easily repairable as required by most insurance companies.

0 Key Alarm Cancellation Autodialler Software Upgrade

The M30 Autodialler ‘0’ key cancellation software upgrade provides the following additional feature to the standard M30.

On a standard M30 when you want to acknowledge / cancel an active alarm. i.e. stop the M30 from calling anyone else on the current roster/dial out list, you phone the M30 back on the PSTN / Land Line or GSM phone number it is connected to, the M30 answers and acknowledges that the alarm has been cancelled.

With the ‘0’ key upgrade you can cancel the alarm while you are listening to the alarm call. E.g. The M30 phones you to report there is a mains failure on site, during the call you press the ‘0’ key on your phones keypad, the M30 will hang up on you and cancel any further alarm calls.

As per a standard machine if another alarm becomes active or the current alarm goes and comes back again the M30 will start calling out again.

The software is currently available for nearly all 4, 8, 16 & 56 channel/input machines.

As per all our software and hardware upgrades they can be customized to your exact needs.
